With a fine day and a record attendance, the final day of the Poverty Bay Turf Club's summer meeting at Makaraka set a record for on-course betting of £56,047, compared with £53,000 at the same meeting last year.

With off-course investments added, the total for the meeting was £166,551, compared with last year's £125,083.

It was what is known as "Coast Day" and appropriate therefore that the Tolaga Bay Handicap should have been won by B. A. Beedell's Noumea. In the picture above, Noumea is seen winning by a length and a half from Ten Grand.

The trophies were presented by Mrs E. C. Loisel, wife of the vice-president of the club.
