Citizens of Gisborne responded promptly and generously to a Red Cross appeal for aid as thousands of Hungarian refugees streamed into Austria.
The president of the Gisborne Red Cross, Mr Leo Fowler, said that almost all of the clothing donated was in splendid condition.
Pictured in the Red Cross depot, Derby St., are Sister I. M. Smale; Mrs W. Bourke, secretary; Mr Fowler; and Mrs E. T. Doddrell.
Clothes donated here will be shipped to the Red Cross in Britain for distribution to the refugees.
