Veteran Shearer

Few men have handled more sheep in their lifetime than Patutahi's veteran shearer, Charlie Peach. Now in his 76th year, Charlie has not missed a shearing season for 59 years.

But Charlie is not impressed by his own record.

"I had an uncle who was shearing until he was 84,"he told "Photo News".

Although he started his trade as a 16–year–old youth, he has never tired of it, and is still ready to help out when he's needed.

Electric shears were unheard of when Charlie started in his trade.
