Scenic Flight

Kawarau, Tawawera Chasm, Rotorua, Atiamuri, Whakamaru, Huka Falls, Wairakei, Taupo, Tokaanu, National Park, Tongariro, Ruapehu, the Chateau, the Desert, Lake Waikaremoana. ... these are names to stimulate the imagination of the most jaded sightseer. The magic carpet of an N.A.C. special flight brought all these scenic treasures to the eyes of passengers from Gisborne who made the 2½ hour trip on a recent Sunday.

Ruapehu's steaming crater lake was a highlight of the N.A.C. scenic flight. 'Plane circled right round mountain, gave passengers this close–up view looking down on the summit.

"Photo News" went along to record some of the views which kept passengers peering through the Douglas Dakota's windows. A hazy sky made conditions difficult for photography, but on these four pages some of the trip's highlights are recorded for the benefit of readers who so far have not been able to make the trip.

Amid dark pine forests, dozens of steam jets mark the location of Wairakei, where the Government has plans to harness this tremendous source of power for generating electricity.
