Agnes Adrift

Wharf vandals seriously endangered the 80-ton lighter Agnes on a recent Saturday night when they set her adrift in the harbour channel.

Agnes ran aground on Waikanae Beach, near Stanley Road, but was refloated on Sunday night and towed back to her berth.

Like a stranded whale, Agnes was stuck fast in sand on Sunday morning.

Ghostly in night gloom, Agnes disappears slowly from view as she is towed towards open sea.

Undamaged, Agnes was back at work on Monday loading frozen meat aboard the Port Hobart.
