The Changing Scene In Gisborne City

×

In a prosperous, growing town like Gisborne, the passing of even a few months brings notable changes in the look of the place. An old building is pulled down here, a new one goes up there, the front of another is remodelled - and in a year or so it is difficult to remember the scene as it was.
On these pages, "Photo News" presents a pictorial record of building progress as it is this month. Above: The scene in Customhouse Street, looking across the Childers Road intersection to Gladstone Road. At right is the Shipping Company building, which has just been given a face-lift. At the end of the street is the Loan and Mercantile building, which is undergoing a major reconstruction, now approaching its final stage.
