Soccer — On Rugby Park North-South Clash

With the sprig-marks of the touring Springboks scarcely faded from its surface, Rugby Park became the venue recently for one of the finest football matches seen in Gisborne — but this time it was football of the soccer brand.

The cream of New Zealand's soccer players took the field for the annual North-South game, and the result was top-class Association Football.

It was a proud day for local supporters: Not only had Gisborne been chosen as venue for the game; Eastern Union's John Aird, a former Scotland player., was in the North Island side. Max Walker would have played, too, but for a wrist injury.

South won the match, three goals to two.
