Proud to promote Gisborne, its People and Business
What an eventful month July has been. Gisborne people locally, nationally & internationally are flying the Gisborne Banner high. Knowing full well, when listing events, omissions will occur but for the purposes of qualifying the word eventful, I will have to take the risk, with no slight intended to those who have been omitted. Sandra Edge M.B.E. & Silver Fern Captain is in Birmingham (UK) at the Netball World Cup; Leigh Gibbs is the Silver Ferns Coach; Gisborne Trampolinists Tina Thompson & Emily Humphrey are off to the Pan Pacific Games in Japan; Eon Wallace & Stacey Worsnop are off to row in Poland at The World Champs; Ron Robertson has at least 2 wins at the World Veteran Games in the USA; Gisborne City are top of the Premier Soccer League; the Rising Suns are top of their Basketball League; Gisborne Girls' High Netballers had great success at the Secondary Schools Tournament; Poverty Bay / East Coast Golfers had success at the Central Regional Tournament; Polo Crosse locals Maurice Kerekere & Atahere Cameron are off to play two Tests against the Australian Colts; Mathew Cutts, Warrick Hankey & Anauru Bickford travelled to Tonga to play music at the Kings' Birthday Party; David File is to represent N Z in Bowls; James Kerr & Mark Jefferson are in the N Z Rugby Colts. Not bad for a relatively small centre called Gisborne & August will see all local Rep teams beginning their seasonal tournaments. Maybe Rupert Murdoch should be sniffing around our sports fields with his open cheque book. Gisborne Photo News wish all success in everything they do.
