Adventure Story Of The Year

This summer, intrepid explorers from Britain and New Zealand will write further chapters in what promises to be one of the great adventure stories of our times — the attempt to cross the continent of Antarctica from the Weddell Sea to the Ross Sea, over the South Pole.

To promote local interest in the expedition, Mr A. S. Helm, secretary of the Ross Sea Committee, visited Gisborne this month and addressed meetings. A committee was set up with Mr W. Jenkins as chairman, Mr W. Hudson as secretary, and Mr F. J. Stenner as treasurer.

N.Z. expedition from Ross Sea will be led by Sir Edmund Hillary. British party coming from Weddell Sea will include Mr George Lowe.
