500 Dollar Cheque

Great Gesture

A fine gesture was made by a lot of people when they donated a total of $300 to the Dick Tayler Appeal. This appeal was arranged in Gisborne by Mrs Joyce Johnston and Mrs Phyl Waddell to help athlete Dick Tayler with medical expenses.

The 10,000 metre gold medallist, who helped to make the New Zealand Commonwealth Games such a success, is suffering from a severe arthritic condition and is needing specialist attention. The appeal was a wonderful thought by two people who were helped in the realisation of their project by local generosity.

A very appreciative letter was received back from the Tayler's expressing their utmost gratitude.
