Quentin Sellwood's picture at left of trees in autumn, taken at Hangaroa, is good effort at pictorialism but suffers from a number of faults. The large, sombre area to left of the central poplar might be lopped off, and if the figure was looking ahead and not at the camera, a better picture could be made of it.

Much interest is being taken in the attempts being made to refloat the stranded fishing vessel Ngaio, which has been aground at the Mahanga Beach, Mahia, since 1952.
