Roving Camera

These brand-new cars, pictured in Gisborne on the foreward deck of the coaster Pakura, were badly dented in a southerly storm.

They were hurled together when a giant wave snapped the lashings. The cars were being shipped from Auckland to Napier.

Waves flooded the crew's quarters, damaging furnishings and clothes.

In peace, as in war, the work of Red Cross V.A.D.s goes on. Ten Gisborne V.A.D.s are ready for service in any emergency.

When there's work to be done, Gisborne Baptists are always ready to roll up their sleeves.

The "working bee" pictured right was busy forming a drive and building a bicycle rack at the side of the Tabernacle.

Meanwhile they are far from idle, as the picture left shows. Nurses and friends made 160 articles of warm clothing and a parcel was handed to each of the 55 residents of the Memorial Home.
Mrs M. Morton, Mrs S. Baillie and Mrs W. Burke are shown as they hand the parcels to the matron of the home, Mrs M. Saunders.
