Queen's Birthday Sport

The weather for the numerous sporting activities in Gisborne during the Queen's Birthday weekend was far from the best. Rugby, soccer, basketball, golf, and hockey teams played in a blustery sou'wester with frequent rain showers.

Below are pictures taken at Childers Road Reserve where soccer and hockey tourneys were in progress.

Best off were indoor basketball players taking part in the annual tournament at Gisborne. Although entries were down on last year some good games were seen. The Gisborne team at left won the women's section. From right to left, they are Pam McAneney, Eve Day, Charmaine Swann, Ann Tipi, Norma Wood, Marilyn Tawhiri, and Lilian Solomon.
