Mr R. C. Trueman, who recently took office as assistant clerk and accountant to the Cook County Council. Formerly he was assistant accountant in the Gisborne office of the Maori Affairs Department.

Mr Brian Bree who is retiring as secretary of the Gisborne 30,000 Club after 15 years' service. The new skating rink is among numerous projects which Mr Bree helped to bring to fruition.

Mr Vic Clement, whose long service to the Gisborne Archery Club has been rewarded with life membership. Mr Clement and Mr Jim Burton are the only foundation members still active in the club. It was formed during the war by rifle club members whose sport was curtailed by a shortage of ammunition.

Mr Jack Kane, one of the first two New Zealanders to be awarded the Queen's Fire Service Medal. Mr Kane joined the Gisborne Fire Brigade in 1908 and became superintendent in 1949. His present title is chief fire officer. Mr Kane has earned a Dominion-wide reputation as a far-sighted brigade administrator.
