Right On Target

The 7th Wellington and Hawke's Bay Battalion shooting team was right on target at the Sponge Bay Range to win the coveted Freyberg Trophy. The trophy is competed for between eight other infantry units throughout the country, and one in Singapore. Aggregate points are totalled from machine gun, section and rifle match divisions. The best scores are sent away and judged against the other teams' efforts. The winning team, which scored a total of 2596 points, included six Gisborne men. They were Privates S. Ferguson, G. McLeod and H. T. Davies, Lance Corporals H. Karangaroa and G. Campbell, and Corporal R. Searle.
