Right Royal Recognition

The Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club honoured Mr Stan Parker of 18 Centennial Crescent recently by presenting him with a Certificate Of Merit in recognition of his great services to the club over the past 45 years — ever since he became a member in 1929 in fact. Mr Parker competed in numerous events and championships for 33 years and, while having considerable success, stands out as one man who has won every Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay Amateur Athletic Club cycling title. He has served as president of the club and is also a life member.

Not Too Wet For L.V.A.

The wet conditions on the last two days of the Licensed Victuallers Association bowls tournament did nothing to dampen or deter the spirits of those taking part, Hoteliers and their teams, from all parts, spent an enjoyable four days on Gisborne greens, with a local team ending up top dogs.

The winning team, proudly holding the L.V.A. Cup, came from the Albion Hotel and is, from left, Terry Gardiner (skip), Tinny Ashwell (3), Sid Malone (2) and Jim Trethewey (lead).
