Mr and Mrs J. F. Burgess, Aberdeen Road, celebrated their Golden Wedding with a family gathering on December 3. They also attended the morning service on the Sunday nearest to the anniversary of their marriage in the historic Matawhero Church 50 years ago. Both Mr Burgess' parents, and grandparents, were married in the same church. Mr Burgess, who retired five years ago, has always been associated with the land, Poariki Station in particular, where he was manager for many years. Mr and Mrs Burgess, pictured at the church of their wedding, still take an active interest in local affairs.
