Ninth Mayoral Term

This year's local body elections, which resulted in five new members being elected to the council, also saw Mayor Harry Barker being returned for a ninth term in office. Although challenged for the mayoralty by Public Relations Officer Harry Bennett, Mr Barker, pictured with Mrs Barker, gained 4960 votes to Mr Bennett's 4014.
