Mrs Florence Balfour, Stout Street, was the surprise recipient of a token of appreciation from members of the Trefoil Guild at a recent meeting. Mrs Balfour was honoured for her very long service of 43 years to the Girl Guide movement in general. In 1931 she became the divisional commissioner, and in 1935 the first Poverty Bay provincial commissioner. She has also served as the New Zealand national recorder for many years. Mrs Balfour (left) is being presented with the gift by another long serving member, and good friend, Miss Winifred Lysnar.

A full bus-load of members of the Poverty Bay Rugby Supporters' Club took off for Napier on September 21 to see the Poverty Bay reps down Hawke s Bay by 22-10. The great support given by members of the club must have surely helped Poverty Bay on its winning way!
