The Sandown Marching Cadets have done very well on the junior marching scene for the 1974 season. As well as cups and shields they took medals for 1st Novice Leader, 3rd Novice Team, 2nd Open Leader, 1st Uniform and 1st Fall-In. Joanna Fitzpatrick, now of Rotorua, took top honours in theory and clinical dentistry at the graduation ceremony of the Department of Health's Dental Nurses' Training School in Wellington recently. Joanna, who was also awarded the directors' prize is the grand-daughter of Mrs K. Torrie, Kingsley Street.

Christina Newcomb, 13, the daughter of Mr and Mrs W. B. Newcomb, Adams Road, won the senior tap championship for the second year running at the recent Festival of Talent. For this she was awarded the Robyn Ellis Cup. While she was about it, Christina tapped her way to win the Regency Blair Cup for 12 to 15 year age group, and the Le Bas Memorial Cup as well.
