Golden Wedding

Mr and Mrs L. W. Markie, 35 Wairere Road, Wainui Beach (ABOVE), celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary recently. One hundred and fifty members of the Central Baptist Church — the Church in which they were married in 1924 — sat down to a special celebration dinner in honour of the Markies. The Markies have lived all their married life in Gisborne. Mr Markie is an elder of the Baptist Church and Mrs Markie has been teaching Bible in schools for 30 years. After working as a cooper for the Gisborne Refrigerating Company for 40 years, Mr Markie retired 10 years ago. For the past five years they have lived at their present address at Wainui.
