Because of unusual troubles, the contractors for the new Waipaoa main highway bridge near Matawhero are running about a year late completing the job, but nobody can say they have not got the river bridged. To facilitate communication with their camp on the Patutahi bank, they have run up this fragile footbridge connecting with the more substantial structure which stops short in midstream.
