The purse seine fishing net being used by the Marine Countess, to catch fish for Watties' fish meal plant, makes a colourful sight spread out on No.1 Wharf. The net was being modified after its first week out on the Government-sponsored pelagic fishing trials. Mr Joe Montaperto (foreground), the well known netmaker who was responsible for the construction of the net, is seen with his band of men as they prepare the net for its next sortie out into the open sea.
