John Prince, the top New Zealand croquet player from Hastings, set a world record for the loop marathon with 150 hoops on October 20 at the Kaiti Croquet Club. He played for 3½ hours and the 150 hoops are the equivalent of a 4000 break in billiards. John Prince (left), local champion Cliff Anderson, and his son Allan Anderson, all took part in a sponsored exhibition weekend to raise funds towards a New Zealand representative trip to England.

"Cuddles", in the form of a giant mattress made in the shape of a bear, arrived at the I.H.C. Hostel recently. "Cuddles" was actually made by Wendy Jeffrey, Marie Davis and Kerry Brew, and presented to the hostel for use by the children. It took four-and-a-half days to make. With the bear are some of the hostel children, including Kathie (standing at left). Left from Kathie are the makers, Wendy, Marie and Kerry and a friend, Barbara Young, who are all members of the Turanganui Guide Company.
