Happy Reunion

The fourth Cook Hospital Nurses' Reunion, a very happy affair, was held over Labour Weekend, More than 200 nurses attended the function which got off to a good start with the official welcome and roll call. This was held at the Sandown Park Motor Hotel, where the official luncheon followed. A social evening, church service, Sunday luncheon, and hospital visits were also included in the weekend programme.

Calling the first of the names on the roll is reunion committee chairman Mildred Newing. Mayor Harry Barker declared the reunion underway, while the other guest speaker was the chairman of the Cook Hospital Board, Mr Richard White.

Mr Barker with Miss Iris Martin (left), who was matron from 1942 to 1955, and Miss Romola Bunt (tutor from 1942 to 1949 and matron from 1955 to 1966).

Mrs Edith Williams (nee Cumming), who was at Cook Hospital when it first opened on the hill in 1913, and Mrs Connie McCormick (nee Carmichael).
