At the National Champs
Mercantile Tournament
This season's mercantile tournament produced some very exciting games, and also some push-overs, but the main thing was that the sporting atmosphere was there all the way. The tournament, which has been in progress since April last, concluded on September 18.
At the New Zealand national championships, held in Upper Hutt on September 8 and 9, the Gisborne Women's team did very well. They were runners-up to Remuera, 3-2, in the B grade section and the team is, from left, Joy Rosie, Anne Pardoe, Janette Robb and Iris McGhee.

Division 2 winners, sponsored by J.S. Allan Ltd, (High School Old Boys all) and undefeated all through the tournament were, from left, Peter Allan, Alan Webb, Derek Nash, Bruce Ball, Denzil Ashton, Tony Gayford and Graham Thomas.
