Bride of the Year Contest

Much interest is already being shown in this year's McGlashen Swimming Club "Bride Of The Year Contest," entries for which actually close today. Any bride married between June 1, 1972, and August 15, 1973, is eligible. The winner of the contest receives a South Island luxury holiday, plus other prizes to the value of $370. Second placegetter receives prizes to the value of $100, while prizes to the value of $60 go to the third placed bride. There are prizes also for fourth and fifth. The final is to be held in the War Memorial Hall on September 5.

Last year's winner was Mrs Janis Scholium (nee Lovell) and she will present the prizes at this year's function.

Members of the Old Folk's Association had another very enjoyable get-together this month. The five people pictured are those present who had birthdays in July and August. From left, in front, are Mesdames E. Curtis and C. Dudley and, at back, Mrs D. Wells, Mr R. J. Trethewey and Mrs M. J. Kirk.

Fund-raising is already underway to obtain money for the new Free Kindergarten for the Mangapapa/Te Hapara area. A progressive committee has been formed for the fund-raising. A novel raffle, to get things under way, is this Tin Can Daddy (or robot if you like). He is made of empty food cans, and the prize is actually the number of cans in the man, but all Full and UNopened!
