Gay Paree in Gisborne

A night of fan and gaiety in the famed Moulin Rouge was the theme of the Gisborne Operatic Society's cabaret evening last month in the Kahutia Pavilion. From their frames on the walls, bowling stalwarts of the past and present watched impassively as can-can girls kicked high amid typical scenery of Montmartre for an enthusiastic audience which ranged from Napoleon and Madame du Barry to cafe strollers and their artist friends.

Most times, Operatic Society members are working to entertain others, On this occasion, their night out in Gay Paree was free of the demands and tensions of stage work, and all present made the most of it.

In all sincerity, "Photo News" takes advantage of these few lines to dip its lid to those talented people, amateur & professional, who ever grace a Gisborne stage. In a world far too preoccupied with the credit squeeze, no power, dearer tobacco, pot-holes, little books, and other worries, they keep open for the rest of us an essential doorway to the realms of fantasy.
