Direction Indicator is Latest Addition

Presented to the city by the Gisborne Rotary Club, the new direction indicator at the Kaiti Hill lookout is a handsome and useful gift which will be much used by visitors.

The indicator was presented to the city at a Saturday afternoon ceremony on April 14. In making the presentation, Mr W. K. Ward, president of the Rotary Club, said that the ceremony marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Rotary.

Made of black marble, the indicator shows all the points of interest within an eight-mile radius of Kaiti Hill, which is centred on the indicator. On an outer circle are shown the directions in which lie some of the main towns and features of New Zealand, and a few overseas cities.

The Mayor, Mr H. H. Barker, is shown unveiling the indicator.

Already the direction finder has been the subject of much favourable comment from visitors, who by a study of its map are able to pick up various landmarks visible from the lookout.

On a recent visit to the hill, "Photo News" found this party working out locations with the aid of the indicator.
