Mini Art
The art of Bonsai, or miniature tree growing, is a very ancient branch of Japanese culture. Local members of the Poverty Bay Bonsai Society have indulged in this hobby for some years now, and a display of their many and varied trees was held in the St John Ambulance Hall on May 17 and 18.
Distracted from the display of trees by this beautiful Japanese doll is Sheryn Dean of Nuhaka, who came up especially for the show.
This windswept juniperus horozontalis, 5 years old, attracted much attention.
Mrs Mary Luxton of Ngongotaha brought over her collection of extra-mini trees for the show. She is holding a cast iron figurine from Korea
The Mayoress, Mrs H. H. Barker, opened the show. She is pictured with society president Mrs Marge Adams (left) and secretary Norm Grey.
