The descendants of the pioneering missionary brothers Henry and William Williams celebrated the 150th anniversary of the landing of Henry Williams at the Bay of Islands in 1823, at Paihia recently. Among those attending were relatives and immediate descendants of Mr and Mrs Denys Williams, Wainui Beach (Left). Mr Williams' father was Herbert William Williams (6th Bishop of Waiapu), his grandfather was William Leonard Williams (3rd Bishop of Waiapu), and his great-grandfather was, of course, William Williams (1st Bishop of Waiapu). William Williams established a mission here at Turanga (Gisborne) after coming from Paihia in the 1830s.
