Changing Face

And still the face of Gisborne City keeps changing, with new buildings on the rise, and additions and alterations taking place.

The building stretches skyward as the contractors press ahead with structural work.

Nearly a year's progress can be seen on the construction of the new Post Office in Grey Street.

The new administration block at the Boys' High School has been completed and is now in use.

The revetments along Reads Quay hold back the bank and smarten up the riverside.

The marina on the Taruheru River is starting to look the part with the concrete ramp set in place. Full use of this amenity is expected at the beginning of next summer.

Work is progressing favourably on the new Training Centre for the Intellectually Handicapped Children Society It is situated off the end of Temple Street.

The Council pensioner flats, built on the Wainui Road land donated by the R.S.A., are almost ready tor occupation.

Orientation can be gauged from the DB Hotel seen towards the end of Tyndall Road at the left of the picture.

The Olympic Pool complex in Awapuni Road is well on the way, with the main pool and diving pool already in shape. It is hoped to have them ready for use by the end of this year.
