World President

The world president of Associated Country Women of the World, Mrs Olive Farquharson, of the United Kingdom, visited Gisborne recently and spoke to members of the associated clubs (C.W.I., W.D.F.F., Maori Women's Welfare League, and Country Girls' Club) at an afternoon gathering at Ulverstone. The association has 6,000,000 members in 66 countries throughout the world.

A11 Gisborne girls will be green with envy of Leonie Beauchamp. She had her picture taken with Sean Connery (of James Bond fame) on the night of the Hartsbourne PRO-AM Golf Tournament celebrations. Sean was placed in the first three. Leonie, who is the daughter of Mr Henry Beauchamp, Manutuke, and the late Mrs Kehu Beauchamp, has been on a working holiday in England for the past year.

June Kenny, daughter of Mr and Mrs P. J. Kenny, 353 Clifford Street, is now on a working holiday in Sydney, working for a real estate firm. June was formerly a shorthand-typist at Common Shelton

Jillian Ashwell, daughter of Mr and Mrs Laurie Ashwell, Churchill Crescent, is at present working in Sydney. She has been sponsored by the Randwick Lions to take part in the "Miss Wairoa" competition to raise funds to establish a sheltered workshop for boys and girls leaving the Wairoa Special School. Best of luck, Jillian!

The Ashwell's other daughter, Marie-Ann, has gone training as a nurse at the Waikato Hospital, in Hamilton. Marie-Ann left Gisborne Girls' High School last year, after sitting her U.E.
