The New Bangkok loaded 3100 tons of maize in Gisborne, recently. Marine regulations now require bulk loaded maize to be completely stabilised and not shift about when the ship is at sea. To do this the hold is partly filled, then covered with canvas. The loading is then completed and the canvas tied down. This operation then stops the maize from moving about.

While not exactly emulating Hamlet (or something), Wayne Roberts, of MacDonald Street, might be forgiven for thinking something gruesome was growing in his garden when he discovered this 12" by 9" puffball among the cabbages. Just as well, anyway. Who wants a garden full of skulls?

The 40 'Soul Peddler,' a Sequoiah-type yacht, two years in the making by Graham Castles and Bruce Grey, was launched with due ceremony recently, in the harbour basin. Construction and finish are superb and the owners are very proud of their work.
