A cheque for $850 was handed over towards the fund for the proposed aviary to be built in the Botanical Gardens. Handing over the cheque, which is part of a sum of $1450 promised by combined service clubs in the city, is the outgoing P.R.O., Alan O'Donnell (right). Receiving the cheque are Messrs Seton Clare (City Council reserve chairman), left, and Mayor Harry Barker.

At the Mason residence, Childers Road, 'Tammy, a fox terrier of no mean repute, recently produced a litter of seven pups. This is Tammy's first litter and a family of seven pups is something unusual in the fox terrier world, as they usually produce only three or four pups per litter.

From Mrs Carol Nickerson, who works at the Veterinary Club, comes this picture of 'Dale' (an Australian Terrier), a Kiwi, which had been caught in a gin trap, and 'Therese' (a Burmese pedigree kitten), making all friendly-like in the Vet. Club grounds. The Kiwi was kept at the club for ten days, by which time he was fit enough to return to the bush, having lived luxuriously on a delicious diet of worms. The kitten and dog still write to their bush friend!
