Local Heart

The local heats of the Jaycee Teenage Driver of the Year contest were held at the spacious parking area of the Sandown Hotel. More than 40 entrants took part in tests of road code knowledge, open road driving, and a set course of seven sections.

The other pictures on these two pages show the various set driving tests as undertaken by contestant Michael Watson. Each entrant had a driving instructor accompanying him. With Michael is Mr Ross Gregory.

Winner of the local section was Bruce Clark.

Pictured with the project convener, Mark Henshilwood, are Lesley Hardeastle, who gained the top place for a female driver, and Kevin Russell (right) who was second overall.
