Fire Station News

With the change in staffing hours and shifts, seven new permanent firemen have joined the brigade, bringing the total staff to eighteen. The new recruits undergo intensive training once they have joined the service.

The men study the residue from the exercise. Being protein based the spray needs to be cleaned up promptly after use.

Fire Chief Mr K. J. Everson, M.I.F.E., was recently elected president of the N.Z, branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers, Great Britain. Mr R. Patrick has taken up his appointment as Fire Prevention Officer. The scheme, new to Gisborne, has been in operation in other centres for some time now. Mr M. E. Lynch, chairman of the Gisborne Fire Board, has been re-elected unopposed for a third consecutive term as president of the New Zealand Urban Fire Authorities Industrial Union of Employers.
