Here And There

Wonderful Gesture

May Birthdays

40 Years Of Age

The Makaraka-Matawhero branch of C.W.I. celebrated its 40th birthday, this month, with a party in the Makaraka Hail. Enlivening the scene were these eight members of the institute, who presented a small parade of fashions of the past, for the edification of those attending the party.

A great gesture on the part of the public, and Radio 2ZG, enabled members of the Old Folks' Association to receive some extra goodies as gifts. Radio Gisborne celebrated the first year in their new studios by organising this appeal for the "oldies." The appeal, asking for an extra grocery item on anyone's weekly order, was a great success and the goods were handed over to an Old Folks' committee for distribution. Old Folks' Association members to celebrate birthdays in May were, from left, Mesdames E. Priestley, G. Hooper and N. Cram. Next to them is Mrs M. Powell, an association member for thirty years. She, being presented with flowers by St Mary s School pupils Vicki Jones and Sally Johnson, has presented birthday sprays to the birthday celebrants for the past five years. She is now giving up that pleasant little task for someone else to take over.
