Vance Gibson Memorial

Due to the overwhelming subscription (in excess of $1200) to the appeal for funds for a memorial to the late Dr Vance Gibson, it has now been decided to establish four multi-purpose-beds in a room at Chelsea Hospital, instead of one bed, as originally planned. The room, commemorating the life and work of Dr Gibson, a popular physician who had been in practice in this city for more than 22 years, will be called the Vance Gibson Room. Members of the memorial committee are Messrs S. McGuinness (chairman), A. A. Bryan, A. J. Sheehan, C. Bell, H. A. Johansen, E. W. Dumbleton, Dr A. McDiarmid, Dr J. M. Coates and Sister H. B. Allen.

The beds, the latest in multi-purpose units, are noted for their extreme adaptability and manoeuvre-ability. This is achieved through the short wheelbase. The back rests are adjustable to 60 degrees while the feet can be raised 17 degrees. They have removable sides, and height adjustability from 18 to 27 inches. All operations are governed by failsafe controls which lock in automatically at all stages.
