The Money Eaters
A collection of all kinds of money boxes from all parts of the world was on display in the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne Savings Bank, recently. A competition was also held for local money boxes and this drew widely differing types.
This novelty money eater is made from coconuts and took first prize for the largest money box. It belongs to Warren Mitchell, 8 De Costa Avenue.
This hand-forged iron box is a model of the first bank built in Wolverhampton. It won first prize for the most unusual box and is owned by Mrs Marriott.
Among the other interesting boxes was this begging dog which literally swallows money.
The most intriguing of the lot for our camera was this three-combination safe, of French origin.
