Gisborne's only representative at the N.Z. Age Group swimming championships held in Timaru recently, was eleven-year-old Peter Thorpe, a member of the Comet Club and son of Mr and Mrs A. W. Thorpe, Marian Drive. Peter who took three gold, and one bronze, medals at the H.B.-P.B. centre champs previously took out the gold medal at Timaru in the 110 yards and a silver medal in the 220 yards.

Retiring from business is Mr. Stan Vincent of the Midway Music Shop. Mr Vincent, pictured with his wife, has been in the music trade for 14 years, his premises being where P. J. Pilbrow, watchmaker, is now, before taking the premises in the Govt Life Building. Before going into the music trade Mr Vincent was a partner in the former Nigro and Vincent Garage Ltd.

Mr Terry Sutherland, son of Mr and Mrs W. A. Sutherland, Northcote Road, has recently been appointed New Zealand vice-consul for Thailand. After serving with the Ministry of Works, then the Department of Industries and Commerce, Mr Sutherland transferred to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. While with this department he was appointed administration attache at Bangkok. Promotions since have raised him to his present position.

For the ninth year in succession the Comet Swimming Club has taken the Bodle Shield for inter-club swimming. Their winning margin was 109 points at the event which was held, this year, in Wairoa. The shield was presented by the president of the H.B.-P.B. centre, Mr Colin Hacche.
