Grand Jan. Slam

The first of a series of programmes, organised by the Youth For Christ committee, for this year, took place at the Patutahi Domain recently. It was the January Grand Slam, which included car smashing, a car gymkhana, hay-bale stacking an and evening meal.

A late entry in the car gymkhana was Patutahi local, Robert Jones, on his horse. He tried to beat the car times around the course, where the competitor had to pick up a lemon from the top of a hay-bale, at selected points.

Noel Baty successfully takes a lemon from the last bale on the course.

Terry Lougher manages the same feat.

Christine and Marilyn Baty complete the reversing movement with some degree of success, then move on to take the lemon

This solid old sedan took more breaking down than anticipated in the car smashing event. Alan Baty and John Christie get stuck in.
