Advisor Speaks His Mind

Hereford Testers' Open Day

The Eastern Hereford Bull Performances Testing Group held an Open Day on February 7 to mark the conclusion of their first weight gain performance testing trial. The day started with a viewing of steers (Hereford, Beef X Dairy, and Dairy) on the hoof at the Freezing Works, with an address by Mr Mark Egan, on the finer points of beef production for the market. Waihuka Stud was then the venue for the judging of the trial bulls, by Messrs E. M. Williams (president N.Z. Hereford Breeders' Association),

I. A. Barnett and R. Cowan, into three groups on conformation. After the announcement of the results, Mr Williams addressed the large crowd.

Following lunch, a dynamic address was given by Mr Clive Daulton, of the Whatawhata Research Station, who is also advisor to the group. The crowd then returned to the works to see the steers on the hooks, listen to their evaluation by works grader Mr W. Morley, and take part in a panel discussion.
