Third Place In National Champs

Mrs Carolyn Dixon (nee Lyle) gained third place in the Open Hair-cutting competition at the N.Z. National Hairdressing competitions held in Palmerston North recently. She was representing the Poverty Bay Master Ladies' Hairdressers' Association and this is the first time an award has come to Gisborne.

Mary M. Carter, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. A. Carter, of the Matawai Hotel, graduated recently at the Palmerston North Hospital. Mary intends to leave on an overseas trip shortly, where she will take in England and the Continent.

Geoffrey Pollard, son of Mr and Mrs G. G. Pollard, Ormond, was dux of Lindisfarne College, Hastings, last year. He leaves the college with School Certificate, Higher School Certificate and U.E., and this year goes to Waikato University.

Mr and Mrs A. R. Paenga, Crawford Road, who spent some time overseas on a trip recently, are pictured here in Honolulu. They have just been welcomed with a lei of flowers by one of the very attractive girls employed in Hawaii for just this purpose, every visitor getting an individual welcome.
