Making Dough

×

They're training cooks earlier these days. Even under-five little girls like Sue Norris Know how to make dough. And making dough (literally, of course) is all part of the fun at the Gisborne Nursery Play Centre, which meets five mornings a week at the Y.M.C.A.

And don't the toddlers love playing with that flour and water! Frances Court, in picture at left, is experimenting already with the uses of a rolling pin, while behind her, trusting little David Owen is prepared to taste anything, once.

The bakery production line is in full swing. Not even the camera could put a "damper" on this happy scene.

Not all the time that kiddies spend at the Play Centre is devoted to inside play. Like older people, they need a change from that sometimes, and at right the supervisor is giving an elementary lesson on the blackboard.

Outside, the centre has the advantage of pleasant lawns fenced off from the river. In the grounds there are a number of those things dear to the very young in heart: sand pits, a see-saw, a swing, and so on. Here the sunny hours pass in a world of organised play and first steps in the art of human companionship.

Centre is administered by a committee, with Mrs P. A. Balloch as president, Mr J. O. Norris as secretary, and Mrs E. P. Akroyd as treasurer.
