Now, For The Inside

Now that the historic old cottage next to the Museum and Art Gallery has been restored, the next thing is the furnishing of the interior. Funds towards this expense were helped by the proceeds from a wine and cheese evening held in the Art Gallery recently.

Guest speaker was Mr Frank Zirmay, sculptor of the Young Nick bronze statue. He spoke about the design and manufacture of the sculptured bronze New Zealand Chess set, of which only l,025 sets were made. The very first of these was presented to Princess Alexandra, in Auckland.

Hanging up the boxing gloves until next season are these boys of the Takitimu Gym. They are pictured at their end of season function, where the trophies were also presented. The gym did very well this past season, providing three provincial title-holders and three runners-up. From left, in front: Donald Peipi, Gavin Smith, Whare Terekia, David Fox (Adam Miles cup for best all-rounder), Basil Franklin (Enterprise Car Sales cup for most conscientious boy), Troy Thompson, James Jeffers, Simon Babbington, Paul Terekia. At back: Mr Len Miller (trainer), Brian Gray, Peter Kerekere, Jacob Taylor, Derek Kaa, Barry Franklin, John Kerekere, Tom Kerekere, Isaac Campbell and trainer Ray Gear.
