×

The first of an annual series of schoolboy rugby competitions was held during the first week of the school holidays. Sponsored by the Hawkes Bay and Gisborne Savings Bank the tournament gives a new look, and stimulus, to junior football.
Six zones (East Coast North, East Coast South, City North, City South, Country North and Country South) played off against each other over four days. The outright winners were City South, under the management of Messrs G. Walford and H. Callaghan. The team, which scored 117 points for, and NONE against, is from left, in front: R. Broughton, P. Nikora, G. Muir, J. Harvey (captain), M. Schultz, L. Holmes, S. Baker, P. Christensen. Back row: P. Ngerengere, G. Wilsher, G. Hors-fall, T. Kotuhi, K. Ripia, D. Edwards, D. Leach, R. Williams, J. Brown and D. Greaves.
