The most successful junior boxing team ever to represent Gisborne took three titles the trophy for the most scientific boxer, and the shield for the Association gaining the most points at the national championships, held at Upper Hutt on August 28. The title winners were Dean Pere, Steven Durston and Ross O'Connell. Ross also won the trophy for the most scientific boxer at the tournament.
