Mr Ted Williams, 13 Sievwright Lane, has been elected the new president of the Gisborne-East Coast Bowling Centre, A member of the Poverty Bay Bowling Club since 1956, Mr Williams has been a committee member of the club since then with the exception of one two-year break. He is at present honorary treasurer of the club. He has had several successes in club championships, notable ones being two Peace Shield tournaments, with the late Mr Charlie Broughton. Mr Williams, whose previous sporting activities included rugby, cricket and rifle shooting, was appointed centre delegate (representing the Wairoa Club) in 1970.

Mr Harold Powell, Foster Street, must have created a New Zealand record as the delegate for one bowling club. For the past 26 years he has been delegate for the Te Karaka Bowling Club. Mr Powell, who has been a member of the Kahutia Club since 1943 and twice president of that club, became delegate for the Te Karaka Club in 1945 as transport into Gisborne was difficult about that time owing to a shortage of petrol. However, the Te Karaka Club must have been well satisfied over the years as Mr Powell is still their delegate.
