Mr Morrin Hardy won the Webber Challenge Cup at the Massey Wool Association's annual conference held recently. The competition is for wool-brokers throughout the country and the winner is selected from a practical exam.

Gisborne lawyer Mr K. B. Cull, Fox Street, has been appointed a judge of the Maori Land Court. He is a partner in the company of Wilson, Cull and Barber. A returned serviceman, he has also been involved with Unity Theatre and the Operatic Society. He takes up his new appointment in Hamilton in September.

Mr Cull's daughter, Helen, a student at St Mary's College, won the Edwards Challenge Cup, premier trophy for the Overseas League's public speaking contest, held annually.

Mr Jim Barnes, who has been with Engine Rebuilders Ltd in Gisborne, has accepted a position with Survic Autocourt in Napier. A foundation member and president of the Gisborne Youth Council, Mr Barnes took up his appointment at the beginning of August.

Mrs Pat Stewart, Stout Street, was again judge at the National Coordinating Countrywomen's Woolcraft Contest, this year held in Wellington. Mrs Stewart was appointed judge at the first contest eight years ago and has been doing this each year since.

Mr Cliff Gerrand and his wife Vi, 4 Oates Street, celebrated their silver wedding recently. The couple came to Gisborne from Morrinsville two years ago. Mr Gerrand is secretary-manager of the Gisborne Park Golf Club.
